Synopsis

Overview

See also large-sized edition.

The Illustrated Field Guide to Congenital Heart Disease and Repair was created to provide a pocket-sized visual resource for pediatric cardiologists to assist their discussions with staff, students, patients, and their families. The book is designed to serve a broad audience of medical students, residents and nurses. In addition, it is intended as a quick reference for anesthesiologists, general pediatricians and adult cardiologists who only see the occasional patient with congenital heart disease. With the release of the second edition we have expanded the Illustrated Field Guide to Congenital Heart Disease and Repair to almost 400 pages in length!

Features

The Illustrated Field Guide to Congenital Heart Disease and Repair includes eight different chapters:
The Normal and Fetal Heart
Congenital Heart Defects
Echocardiography
Catheterization Lab Interventions
Congenital Heart Surgeries
Cardiac ICU Topics
Introduction to Electrophysiology
Common Cardiac Pharmaceuticals

Every chapter is full of colorful, easy-to-read diagrams and images that clearly illustrate different aspects of congenital heart disease.

The Illustrated Field Guide to Congenital Heart Disease is available in both pocket-sized and large format so that practitioners can carry around the field guide in their lab coat or put the large format field guide on display in their office.

The Field Guide is the only handheld reference for pediatric cardiologist ever created.

The Field Guide includes never before illustrated catheterization interventions and other surgical procedures integral to the treatment of all types of heart disease.

All of the information, illustrations, and images contained within the Field Guide have been edited and approved by some of the world's leading pediatric cardiologists.

Handy wire binding allows both the pocket-sized and large format books to lie flat when open.

Every Field Guide has a durable, water-proof laminated cover.

Comments about the First Edition

Released in November 2004, the first edition of the Field Guide contained four chapters only: The Normal and Fetal Heart; Congenital Heart Defects; Catheterization Laboratory Interventions; and Congenital Heart Surgeries. All of these chapters have been substantially revised for the second edition. The following comments by distinguished specialists in the field pertain to the first edition:

This is an excellent "Atlas" of CHD. It will be of great value for everyone, including established pediatric cardiologists, fellows, pediatricians, residents, students and nurses. The diagrams are of excellent quality and the description is very clear and to the point. I will find this book of great value in my daily practice and it should be distributed to every nursery, PICD and outpatient clinic. -- Ziyad M. Hijazi, MD, Medical Director, The University of Chicago Heart Center

I would strongly recommend this very useful book to all cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, medical students, and nurses dealing with cardiac surgery and congenital heart disease... -- Warren Guntheroth, MD, University of Washington School of Medicine

This illustrated guide by Everett and his colleagues... will be particularly useful for pediatric cardiologists in explaining a given cardiac defect or a proposed intervention to the patients and to their parents or spouses, as the case may be. The explanations are clearly supported by diagrammatic illustrations. The descriptions are concise and the diagrams are colorful, attractive and pleasant. .. I would highly recommend its use by the healthcare practitioners caring for the patient with congenital heart defects. -- P. Syamasundar Rao, MD, Memorial Hermann Children's Hospital

This concise, portable guide brings clear thinking and illustration to the complex field of pediatric cardiac disease... A "must have" for all who care for children with heart disease. -- Duke Cameron, MD. Chief of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, The Johns Hopkins Hospital

...immensely useful in the numerous daily discussions we have with parents, families, staff, students, and non-specialists. -- John W. Moore, MD, MPH, Congenital Cardiology Today
