Synopsis

This new book entitled 'Profiles in Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology' includes an extensive table of the History of the Disorders of Cardiac Rhythm from the 16th to the 20th century, a series of historical pages developed by the author for every issue of the Journal of Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology (JICE), reflecting eminent personalities or events in medicine and the main chapter on biographical sketches followed by a dictionary/glossary of arrhythmias, electrophysiology and pacing.

The Encyclopedia Rhythmologica is a collection of short biographies of scientists and physicians who have played (or still play) a significant role in improving diagnosis and therapy of heart rhythm disturbances including electrophysiology and pacing. These names were repeatedly found in the speakers or faculty list of pivotal cardiologic, particularly rhythmological congresses, meetings, symposia, and workshops. Altogether, approximately 250 remarkable individuals are described. The length of the respective CVs varies according to the available information from the literature (including Internet) or provided by the named individual itself. Furthermore, it should be taken into consideration, that the number of names inevitably is based on subjective criteria. While originally filled with biographies of past pioneers of rhythmology, some of whom lived long ago, the encyclopedia does also include many contemporary rhythmologists. In this respect, the list is not statically predetermined, but rather is subject to biographically conditioned dynamics and must be revised and supplemented in definite intervals.
